She’s SO Creative to Launch Fun Kitchen Gifts at San Francisco Gift Fair 2010

She’s SO Creative is launching brand-spankin’ new “kitchy kitchen” gifts at the San Francisco International Gift Fair this weekend (7/31-8/3), booth #2040. With witty aprons, shopping lists, and napkins (in the cleverest packaging you’ve ever seen!), we’re beyond excited to showcase our newest creations to the retail industry at large.

The success of She’s SO Creative’s outrageously clever card line, which we launched two years ago, encouraged and inspired us to expand our brand into new arenas. Keeping the same wit and whim, kitchenware was a natural progression with our funny-food related designs acting as a catalyst to springboard the collection. Here’s a sneak peak below:

Hey, She’s SO Creative – what’s with the name?

To me, seriously being referred to as “creative” is the ultimate compliment. If my epitaph reads, “here lies Stephanie Orma. She was SO creative,” then I will have lived out my dream.

When I was a little girl, I loved the comics – so much so that my Dad was still sending me the funny pages every week when I was college! I devoured my brother’s Mad Magazines and oodles of cartoon books from Garfield to For Better or For Worse to Luanne, Kathy, and Rose is Rose. I loved (and still do) Lucille Ball, Carol Burnett, and Tracy Ullman. When I was high school and college, I created hilarious cartoons of my snooze-worthy professors. Nothing made me happier.

Fast forward to my 30th birthday. I was at a crossroads in my career and sole searching for my dream career. And BAM! It hit me. I wanted more than anything to bring my outrageously clever ideas to life through fun, witty products. She’s SO Creative was born.

I spent months brainstorming, drawing, and seeing just how far I could stretch the literal to hilarious limits. I created prototypes, made cold calls and started knocking on doors, one retailer at a time. The rejections were tough (and still are) but thankfully they’re few and far between.

Today, She’s SO Creative is sold in stores all across the nation and I’m having a blast coming up with more outrageously clever products everyday! One of the greatest (and most unexpected) joys of starting my creative biz has been the opportunity to connect with creative people everywhere. From the dental hygienist who moonlights as a photographer to the trombone-playing-banker to the crafty endocrinologist, She’s SO Creative celebrates the creativity in everyone. And hey, if I can make it happen – you can too.

The not-so-daily dose of creativity: Collard Greens

This is the brief but definitive guide to collard greens: broccoli likes high collars, asparagus tend to go more conservative, and green peppers go for the spiked dog collar look. Any questions? Stretch the literal to hilarious limits in your creativity today and astound yourself with the great ideas you come up with. To start, what do you think the veggies in this cartoon are thinking?

Daily dose of creativity: How rugs get their weave

Ever notice how it’s so much easier to think of ideas that won’t work for a project? I’m currently designing a high-end brochure for an antique rug gallery (i.e. cartoon rugs are a big no-no). So, it’s incredibly refreshing to switch gears and think in a completely different creative light. It’s also a great brainstorming tool to get unstuck in a creative block.

Set the intention to think of the most outrageously WRONG solutions for your project. You’ll not only crack yourself up with your ideas (and imagining how your client would react if you actually presented them), but it’s also a great technique that (eventually) will lead to the right creative solution.

Daily dose of creativity: Not all birds can sing

It’s true – some birds have really bad voices and drive all the other birds bonkers with their crazy, off-pitch chirps. So why keep singing if it’s so painful to the ear? Maybe they absolutely love doing it and don’t care if they’re good or not (or maybe they’re completely tone deaf and can’t tell the difference). Either way, allow yourself to do something for the pure enjoyment of it today…even if you suck at it! The creativity stage is not about being good or bad, right or wrong. It’s about exploring the options and seeing where your imagination will take you. So let’s get started: what’s the silliest commentary you can think of for the birds in this cartoon?

Daily dose of creativity: Why dogs really have wet noses

Recent studies (and hidden cameras) have finally revealed why dogs really have wet noses. As it turns out, cats have been using them as toilet plungers for centuries! It’s so fun to brainstorm our own “illogically logical” explanations for why things are the way they are. To get started on your absurdly clever thinking today: what do you imagine the wiener dog in this cartoon is thinking right now?

Daily dose of creativity: The Fat Eraser

Imagine if we could simply erase and redraw our fannies and other body parts we didn’t like? From the beginning of time (and many hilarious episodes of “I Love Lucy”), man has come up with some wacky weight loss schemes. Keeping in that theme – what crazy, wacky, creative commentary can you think of for the woman in this cartoon?

Daily dose of creativity: Celery Stalker

The celery stalk infatuated with the peanut butter jar – a classic love story. Step into the world of the absurd where creativity is king. Have fun thinking up totally bizarre ideas today…you never know, one of those crazy ideas could be perfect for your project. To get started, what do you think the peanut butter is thinking right now?

Daily dose of creativity: Shoestring budget cartoon

Who isn’t on a shoestring budget these days? But rather than complaining or moping about, finding the humor and lightness in tough times is a great way to keep our spirits high. So crack yourself up today! Let’s start: what is the funniest dialogue you can think of for this cartoon?
