To me, seriously being referred to as “creative” is the ultimate compliment. If my epitaph reads, “here lies Stephanie Orma. She was SO creative,” then I will have lived out my dream.
When I was a little girl, I loved the comics – so much so that my Dad was still sending me the funny pages every week when I was college! I devoured my brother’s Mad Magazines and oodles of cartoon books from Garfield to For Better or For Worse to Luanne, Kathy, and Rose is Rose. I loved (and still do) Lucille Ball, Carol Burnett, and Tracy Ullman. When I was high school and college, I created hilarious cartoons of my snooze-worthy professors. Nothing made me happier.
Fast forward to my 30th birthday. I was at a crossroads in my career and sole searching for my dream career. And BAM! It hit me. I wanted more than anything to bring my outrageously clever ideas to life through fun, witty products. She’s SO Creative was born.
I spent months brainstorming, drawing, and seeing just how far I could stretch the literal to hilarious limits. I created prototypes, made cold calls and started knocking on doors, one retailer at a time. The rejections were tough (and still are) but thankfully they’re few and far between.
Today, She’s SO Creative is sold in stores all across the nation and I’m having a blast coming up with more outrageously clever products everyday! One of the greatest (and most unexpected) joys of starting my creative biz has been the opportunity to connect with creative people everywhere. From the dental hygienist who moonlights as a photographer to the trombone-playing-banker to the crafty endocrinologist, She’s SO Creative celebrates the creativity in everyone. And hey, if I can make it happen – you can too.
